Agriculture plays a vital role in the economy of Edo State, providing livelihoods for a significant portion of the population. However, the sector faces numerous challenges that hinder its productivity and growth. This research paper examines the challenges facing agricultural productivity in Edo State and explores opportunities for enhancing productivity through innovative strategies and interventions. The paper highlights the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, access to finance and markets, and technology adoption in improving productivity and ensuring food security in the state.

Key Findings:

• Limited access to finance and credit facilities is a major constraint for smallholder farmers in Edo State.
• Inadequate infrastructure, such as roads and storage facilities, hinders the efficient distribution and marketing of agricultural produce.
• Climate change poses a significant threat to agricultural productivity, highlighting the need for climate-smart agricultural practices.
• There is a need for increased investment in agricultural research and extension services to promote the adoption of modern farming techniques and technologies.
